West Cullinan: Contemporary Luxury DesignA Harmonious Blend of Form and Function
The design concept of West Cullinan is a timeless representation of contemporary luxury. Designed by Hoi Fung Cheang, this interior design for a residence showcases the principle of "less is more" while incorporating luxurious elements. The inspiration for this design came from the desire to create a space that seamlessly integrates the sea view from the balcony into the interior, using wall finishes reflection and a minimal fixture concept. The result is a harmonious blend of nature and luxury.
The strength and uniqueness of West Cullinan lie in its contemporary luxury style and the contrast of materials used. The high headroom allows for a spectacular ceiling design, with multiple layers combining different materials and lighting effects. The storage cabinets are finished with luxurious materials, achieving both aesthetic appeal and functionality.
The realization of this design required a focus on refined details to enhance the luxury and high-end touch. All-rounded edges ceiling profiles and custom-made recessed light fittings in unique colors were used to achieve this. The materials used in the design include laminated feature glass with unique fabric, resin hand-made pattern wall panels, smoky frost pattern tinted mirror, anodized metal trim, wall fabric, vinyl cover, St. Louis pendant lights, and Minotti sofas.
The technical specifications of West Cullinan include a size limitation of 1000mm (w) x 1000mm (d) x 2400mm (h) for all cabinet and wall hard materials due to production limitations.
This project, which took place in Hong Kong, started in April 2020 and was completed in December 2020. It was filmed by a local TV channel in December 2020 to showcase the design and technical aspects. The design team members included Hoi Fung Cheang, Mia Wong, Winnie Mok, Kenneth So, and William Tong.
One of the challenges faced during the design process was blending the new design seamlessly with the existing design, including the M&E services and basic finishes provision. The intricate and refined details had to be achieved within the budget and timeline constraints.
West Cullinan was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2021 in the category of Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design. This award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The design is respected for integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings, and contributing to a better world.
